Saving the world from sugar addiction

SUGARbriety: freeing the world from sugar addiction

5DIABETES REMISSION TIPS

WORLDWIDE DIABETES EPIDEMIC KILLING 592 MILLION!
1 in 2 adults are either diabetic or prediabetic.
AM I THE ONE?

1How to NOT Be a Diabetic Casualty

START SUGARbriety NOW!

When you have diabetes you can’t digest sugar properly. The solution? SUGARbriety: a near-zero sugar diet. (1) You don’t have diabetes yet? Good!

But…

1.9 BILLION PREDIABETICS ARE AT HIGH RISK TO BECOME DIABETIC

How can you prevent going from prediabetic to diabetic? SUGARbriety: a near-zero sugar diet.

So, we’ve got 2.5 BILLION prediabetics and diabetics. That’s one out of two adults.

So, ask yourself, “AM I THE ONE? Am I the one who needs to get off the sugar roller coaster now?”

To see if you’re, “THE ONE,” you need to know your A1c. What’s your A1c? It’s how much sugar’s been in your blood for the last three months.

Does your doctor check your A1c? If not, ask for an A1c test now. If he refuses, go buy an A1c test kit and test it yourself. (And consider getting a smarter doctor.)

Professor of Clinical Gerontology KT Khaw and her team at Cambridge University studied 10,232 men and women who were 45 to 79 years of age in the EPIC-Norfolk Study. They found that the higher your A1c, the higher your risk of death. (2)

You really, really need to know what your A1c is and then take action if it’s too high.

  • If your A1c is around 5% (31 mmol/mol) or lower, you are NOT THE ONE. Congratulations!
  • If your A1c is between 5.7% to 6.4% (39 to 46 mmol/mol), YOU ARE THE ONE! You’re a prediabetic.
  • If your A1c is at or above 6.5% (47 mmol/mol), you’re not only THE ONE, you’re a diabetic.

If YOU are THE ONE, you have up to a 4X higher risk of a heart attack or stroke. Sorry.

This is really bad news if you’re going to follow standard medical advice.

Most doctors believe that diabetes is irreversible and usually leads to a life of misery that includes amputations, blindness, nerve pain, obesity, and kidney failure. Then, eventually, after decades of feeling horrible, you die before your time of a heart attack, stroke, or cancer.

In addition, the standard high sugar diet they prescribe for diabetics will make you dependant on all sorts of pills that have many, many unpleasant and painful side effects. Ugh.

OK, enough of that. Take a deep breath in. Phhhh. Let it out. Hooooo. Relaxxxxx.

TIME FOR SOME GOOD NEWS!

The GOOD NEWS is if YOU’RE THE ONE and begin SUGARbriety NOW, you can sidestep all that.

  • You can get back to having a normal A1c and need few if any medications.
  • You can lose weight and feel better than you have in years.
  • You can play with your children or grandchildren and have fun instead of being stuck in an easy chair.
  • You can be FREE of diabetes and diabetic complications.

But… In the words of A. Phillip Randolph, “FREEDOM IS NEVER GIVEN; IT IS WON.”

SUGARbriety: A Tale of Two Diets

Look at the “How to Get Off the Diabetes Roller Coaster” graph.

Our chubby diabetic friend is having a tough time of it. He eats LOTS of sugar and starch. He runs dangerously high blood sugars most of the day. He’s at high risk for heart attack, amputations, nerve pain, and kidney failure. He feels pretty crummy most of the time and has to take 11 different meds several times per day. They’re expensive. His blood sugar crashed at noon and he got HANGRY and almost passed out.

Now, look at our slender green friend at the bottom of the graph. This diabetic AVOIDS sugar and starch. He’s lost a bunch of weight and feels better than he has in years. His A1c is back in the normal range so his diabetes is in remission. He’s off ALL his diabetes meds. Staying on the diet takes a little planning but it’s worth it because he feels great!

The SUGARbriety program is simple, but it’s not easy. Your family might not understand it. Your friends might not get it. Your doctor might disagree with it. Your dietitian might have a conniption fit and call you an idiot. Who cares if you get better? It’s your life. It’s your body. Only YOU can choose. You’re special. YOU ARE THE ONE. So you need special treatment. And only YOU can give it to you.

2How to NOT Be a Diabetic Casualty

EAT WHOLE REAL FOOD

Well, duh! Everybody tells you that, right? But then what do they tell you to eat?

The standard advice is to avoid meat and saturated fat, avoid sugar, and avoid salt. But only one of those three is based on solid evidence.

Which one is it? Ahhhh, you guessed it. AVOID SUGAR!

Wait just a minute. Are you saying there’s nothing wrong with meat and saturated fat? I thought saturated fat was a killer! Actually, no. That’s an old theory from the 1950’s that’s never been proven.

In fact, it was proven wrong 52 years ago in 1965 by Dr. Geoffrey Rose. But the anti-saturated fat researchers didn’t like his results, so they ignored him and shouted down anyone who dared to oppose them.

THE ROSE CORN OIL STUDY

Way back in the ’60s there was a lot of open discussion and research on how to prevent heart attacks. Some researchers said it was the fat. We needed to cut way back on fat and switch from saturated fats to mono and polyunsaturated fats like olive oil and corn oil.

Dr. Geoffrey Rose decided to test that theory. He took 80 people with heart disease and split them into three groups.

  1. GROUP ONE were told to eat their regular diet. Steaks, burgers, whatever. Just keep eating what you’re eating. Remember, this was 1965. People ate a LOT of saturated fat back then.
  2. GROUP TWO were told to cut back on animal fat and substitute it with olive oil.
  3. GROUP THREE were told to cut back on animal fat and substitute it with corn oil.

The total cholesterol in both the olive and corn oil groups went down.

Participants were removed from the study if they had another heart attack, developed heart complications, or died.

Can you guess what percent of each group were still in the study two years later? (Hint: If you believe in the Food Pyramid, you’ll be in for a surprise.)

  1.  Of the continued SATURATED FAT GROUP, 75% were still in the study. Yay!
  2.  Of the OLIVE OIL GROUP, 57% were still in the study. Ooh.
  3.  Of the CORN OIL GROUP, only 52% were still in the study. Uh oh.

That’s right. That’s not a typo. Switching from saturated fat to corn oil lowered their odds of surviving two years of heart disease without another heart attack, complications, or dying from 75%, to only 52%. Being in the corn oil group raised the chances of dying by 500% and the likelihood of another heart attack by 200%.

I don’t like those odds. Do you? Avoiding saturated fat and using olive or corn oil lowered their cholesterol but RAISED their chances of dying, another heart attack, or other cardiac complications. Just the opposite of what we’ve been taught for the last 50 years. (3)

If science ruled the roost, that would have been the end of the saturated fat hysteria. Rose disproved it. But nutrition science is not very scientific. Big corporation money was pouring into the science world and twisting science into a pretzel.

The vegetable oil manufacturers were giving lots of money to the American Heart Association (AHA). The AHA responded by demonizing saturated fat and pushing polyunsaturated corn and soybean oil as “heart-healthy” alternatives. The Rose Corn Oil study was dismissed as a fluke and ignored. Butter and beef sales tanked. Margarine and cooking oil sales rose. And the Rose Corn Oil study was forgotten.

What about SUGAR?

While the seed oil manufacturers were wooing the AHA, the sugar lobby was working hard to fight the fact that they sell a product that’s:

  1. Dangerous to health,
  2. Empty of nutrition, and
  3. Full of calories.

Sugar has no vitamins, no minerals, no essential nutrients. Sugar is the definition of empty calories.

SUGARbriety Fascinating Factoid:

IF YOU JUST STOP DRINKING SUGARY DRINKS YOUR CHANCE OF BECOMING DIABETIC GETS CUT IN HALF!(4)

Big SUGAR backed saturated fat as the heart disease culprit since 1954. That year, the Sugar Research Foundation’s president Henry Hass announced that getting Americans on a low-fat diet would result in a huge market share increase for the sugar industry. It has.

And the longer we stay on low-fat/high-sugar diets, the sicker we get. Since the Dietary Goals for America were announced in 1977 recommending a low-fat/high-carbohydrate diet for health we’ve fallen apart. Diabetes and obesity have skyrocketed. Big SUGAR got its market share. We got the short end of the stick.

There were many scientists who doubted the AHA position on saturated fat causing heart attacks. There were quite a number who thought that sugar was the real culprit in heart disease. Four papers published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in June 1965 said so. The New York Herald Tribune wrote it up as a feature story. (5-8) These were fighting words to Big SUGAR.

The Birth of Project 226

Two days after the Tribune article came out the Sugar Research Foundation started super-secret Project 226. (9) The Plan? Wipe concerns about sugar and heart disease off the map and demonize saturated fat as the villain.

So they gave Harvard scientists $48,000 to do a study saying sugar is harmless and fat is bad. The Harvard scientists sold out to Big SUGAR and wrote the paper Big SUGAR requested. They sent letters and drafts back and forth to make sure Big SUGAR got EXACTLY the paper they wanted. Then they got it published as a serialized two-parter in the super prestigious New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). (10,11)

The Harvard scientists disclosed a number of funding sources. But they kept the Sugar Research Foundation money a secret. They concluded that sugar was unimportant in heart disease. They recommended that people lower saturated fats and increase polyunsaturated fats. Just the opposite of what the Rose Corn Oil study showed.

They listed 92 references but excluded Geoffrey Rose’s study. Why? They had nothing to counter it with. So they simply ignored it and kept bashing saturated fat despite Rose’s evidence to the contrary.

This propaganda worked perfectly. Sugar went free on bail and saturated fat was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. And the evidence? Completely phony. The Harvard scientists lied on the stand and sent an innocent fat to diet jail. Forever.

Well, what about salt?

Got the wrong white powder again. Sugar’s the big culprit in high blood pressure. Salt’s a necessary nutrient. Pushing your salt too low can actually cause a heart attack. If you want more details, read Dr. DiNicolantonio’s great paper on the subject (12)

And as a curious side note, consider this. When they checked the total cholesterol of 136,905 patients admitted to hospital for a suspected heart attack, it turned out to be average, 174, normal. (13)

None of the cholesterol blood test markers have turned out to be reliable predictors of heart attack or all-cause mortality. But your three-month blood sugar, your A1c is.

So if testing the various fats and cholesterol in your blood DOESN’T predict heart attack or death.

And testing your long-term blood sugar DOES predict heart attack and death…

Which one do YOU think is the cause? Fat or Sugar? (14)

My money’s on the sugar.

3How to NOT Be a Diabetic Casualty

BE ACTIVE

Q. What’s the best exercise for health

A. The one you love and will do regularly for a lifetime.

Seriously, I’m a certified personal trainer and have worked with people on achieving their health and fitness goals for over two decades. Boot camps end. 8-week diet and exercise programs end. Then you fall out of shape and lose what you gained. Find things you love that make you move around and do them daily. (15,16)

One more thing though. Be sure and lift heavy things regularly. The way to prevent the muscle and bone loss of aging most effectively doesn’t come in a pill. It comes from lifting heavy stuff. Two to three days a week of serious strength training sessions of less than 40 minutes are all you need to hold on to most of your muscle and help keep your bones strong. An hour to two hours a week is a small price to pay to make sure you don’t end up falling apart like my Mom did.

My Mom was a wonderful person. But after she contracted Graves disease and had her thyroid irradiated she was never the same. I know how that feels. I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis which creates similar symptoms. I got my Mom a set of Powerblock adjustable dumbbells. She learned the routines but then never did them except when I came by to visit. And gradually her osteoporosis got worse and her muscle tissue evaporated.

The last ten years of her life were spent mostly in bed, or in the chair in front of the TV, or going to doctor’s appointments. It made me so sad to see this once dynamic woman literally dissolve in front of my eyes. Don’t let this be you.

Meanwhile, my cantankerous 89-year old step-Dad learned the lifting routine and stuck with it. And it showed. Even though he was much older than my Mom, he did the shopping and cooking and cleaning. He had lots of energy for his age. No balance at all. He fell all the time. But his lifting toughened bones never broke. At 89 he was falling apart. But he got another five active years by starting a weightlifting program at 89-years old. (17)

So whose last few years of life would you rather have? Personally, I want to be the active 90+-year-old guy who dies peacefully in his sleep. What you do is entirely up to you. But I’m absolutely sure you don’t want the long drawn out boring decline my Mom went through.

Get out of that easy chair. Get up off the couch. Go do something fun!

4How to NOT Be a Diabetic Casualty

SLEEP WELL

We need about 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night. If you’re cutting that short to five or six hours, you’re cheating yourself of vital rest and recovery. Even worse, it ups your chances of becoming diabetic. If it takes cutting out a TV show or two to get you to bed on time, do it. Your body will thank you, and it will help your overall health. (18,19)

5How to NOT Be a Diabetic Casualty

LOSE THE STRESS

Would you rather be right or happy? Pick one. If you pick “right” you’re just asking for trouble. I spent years trying to be right and it was exhausting. All those needless arguments were just that, needless.

Decide to be happy. Make times to do your happy things. Garden, paint, play music, write, read, visit friends, go places and have fun. Lowering your stress also lowers your chance of dying.

And if you haven’t meditated, prayed, or just sat quietly lately. Start. With or without faith, simple mindfulness techniques are proven to help you let go of stress and worry. Just a little time spent sitting quietly in a mindful state can improve your health. Ironically, these few minutes of time doing “nothing” each day actually accomplish a very powerful “something”. (20,21)

PLEASE HELP US SAVE THE WORLD FROM SUGAR ADDICTION!

Most people, including medical professionals and nutritionists, are still ignorant of the huge amount of new evidence that’s come to light about sugar in the last 20 years. Sugar is a killer. Before we suspected. Now we KNOW.

At SUGARbriety International Inc., our goal is to spread the news about sugar addiction to every country worldwide and reverse the diabetes epidemic.

When Type 2 diabetics get on a SUGARbriety near-zero sugar diet they can reverse their diabetes and put it into remission.

When prediabetics get on a SUGARbriety near-zero sugar diet they can prevent their blood sugars from worsening and becoming diabetic. Everyone deserves to have normal blood sugars.

We’re giving people the tools they need to end their sugar addiction and learn to eat Whole Real Food.

We’re building our website and our YouTube channel with quality information translated into as many languages as possible. And for those who have no Web access, we’ll send out printed materials and volunteers to help those with little or no reading ability.

Everyone everywhere deserves to have normal blood sugars. Everyone deserves to be free of sugar addiction.  But we can’t do it without your help. As a nonprofit, we can’t do anything without your help. Please join SUGARbriety now.

As cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra says,

“Eating less sugar is more powerful than any medication doctors can prescribe.”

And as orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gary Fettke says,

“We can’t wait for governments to change policy because they’re influenced by lobbyists.
We can’t wait for corporations to change because they’re driven by profit.
We can’t wait for health professionals to change because they’re following guidelines written by the food and pharmaceutical industries.
We need to do something now.
That leaves just two people, me and you.
That’s it.
And together the two of us can make a difference.”

2.5 BILLION diabetics and prediabetics need to get off sugar today. (22)

It’s up to us to help show them the way.

Together we can get that message heard around the globe. And it needs to happen now because friends don’t let friends get sugar poisoned.

Please join SUGARbriety now. We are extremely grateful for all your help because friends don’t let friends get sugar poisoned.

Discussion: I figure most of the rest of the world is probably closer to China than the US. Some run higher. Brazil, Pakistan, Mexico (14%), Egypt, and Indonesia are particularly hard hit. The Middle East has some horrible diabetes numbers. Some of the Western Pacific island groups are incredibly overrun with diabetes, but their numbers are small. Due to lack of medical infrastructure, many of the diabetes estimates from these lower income countries are more guesses than fact.

India chose to forego A1c testing in their last survey, so their currently low diabetes estimates are highly suspect for error. Especially since their reported prediabetes rates are only marginally higher than their diabetes rate. This is hard to believe since prediabetes rates typically run 3 to 3 1/2 times higher than diabetes rates. Due to the lack of A1c data, and the suspiciously low diabetes/prediabetes ratio, I decided to discard the latest India data until they do a follow-up study.

Finally, I decided to round up the Chinese numbers slightly to try and find a relatively accurate estimated world rate. China has a diverse population of almost 1.4 billion with different ethnic groups with very different diabetes rates. They A1c tested 170,287 citizens in 2013, so undoubtedly their numbers are higher now. Diabetes is a moving target, so admittedly this is my best guess with the current data sets available.

Estimated 2017 adult world diabetes rate:           11%

Estimated 2017 adult world prediabetes rate:     36%

Which yields:

Estimated 2017 adult world diabetes cases:          592,025,166

Estimated 2017 adult world prediabetes cases: 1,937,536,907
